Tuesday 8 February

South Coast. Today was the day we were going to spend time on the beach. Today it turned out to be a case of the best laid plans etc......

Our morning started at Seal Bay. Lots of lovely activity males, females and pups. Best place to view seals in their natural environment.

Looking down to Seal Bay

Lots of seals along the beach

Seals spend the majority of their time ashore recovering from days at sea

The big bull in the earlier photo, finally went for a swim

Next stop Raptor Domain. The threatened rain started but did not interrupt the amazing show. I was so excited to be able to glove a wedge tail eagle. This is a rehabilitation facility with the birds in the show being unable to be released due to the extent of injuries.

A well camouflaged Tawny Frogmouth

Bush-stone Curlew

A beautiful Barn Owl

He hopped on to my lap then flew off before we could get a picture

Just managed to seek this one

The white flash in the centre of the photo is a hawk flying past at speed

Again, there's the flash just past the keeper

His reward

This beautiful Sea Eagle has a damaged wing, but you wouldn't know it

The speed of the wings at take off!

Massive talons for capturing and holding prey in flight

This Wedge Tail Eagle is about 30 years old and a real sook with the keepers

A younger bird is brought out and is happy to be passed around

After the show we picked up our lunch. The famous whiting burger. We shared one!

As more rain was threatening, we abandoned our plans of eating our lunch on the beach, so we stayed at the general store to eat. We luckily had undercover outdoor seating. Lucky? It poured!

After this yummy lunch we drove the dirt road to Vivonne Bay jetty. Looking across to the main beach, it was easy to see what would draw visitors. Though I wasn't overly impressed, having seen some of the other beaches. Needless to say, our afternoon on the beach was abandoned because of the rain. Can't really complain. We've had outstanding weather. Another lovely day on this wonderful island.

Beautiful clear water at the Vivonne Bay Jetty

Maybe it would be better seen on a sunny day

No wonder so many kangaroos meet their fate on the road. This was not even near sunset
